Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Spruce Grove Public Library have once again organized three movies for fall 2015 as part of its REEL Thursdays fundraising efforts for our library.   We sell tickets for the Friends ($30 for a 3-pack; $12 each) and help promote the movies through social media, handouts and display space.  Tickets are usually available at the door before each film, although some films have been near sell-outs.

Sept. 17Jimmy’s Hall An Irish drama recounting the true story of activist Jimmy Gralton who returns to his hometown to reopen a community hall as a popular place to dance to jazz and host community debates.  The local church attempts to shut it down, fearful that the hall is serving as a breeding ground for permissiveness and political radicalism.
Oct. 22I’ll See You In My Dreams  A vibrant, funny comedy/drama about a widow and former songstress who discovers that life can begin anew at any age.  Stars Blythe Danner, touted as an Academy Award nominee, and Sam Elliot.
Nov. 19What We Did On Our Holiday A charming comedy starring Rosamund Pike, David Tennant and Billy Connolly.  A family vacation goes badly awry when a separated couple decide to play the happy family one last time for the sake of the husband’s drying father.  With three children in town, they embark on a trip to the Scottish Highlands.
All movies begin at 7 p.m. at Landmark Theatres.  A free wine and cheese at Liquor on McLeod precedes each movie.  As well, the Friends have garnered generous support from community sponsors such as The Rotary Club of Spruce Grove, Spruce Grove and District Lions Club, Famoso Pizza and Co-op Convenience and Gas. If you have any questions regarding the movies or the events, please contact Terry Willock at
